- How do you balance the interplay between design, functionality, and economics in your projects, and what unique perspectives do you bring to this dialogue?
We prioritise the human experience within spaces, emphasizing how individuals interact with their environment. Hence, when design takes the lead, we allow for exploration uninhibited by cost constraints, followed by functionality, to ensure spaces serve their intended purpose effectively. Material choices are evaluated with value engineering if needed, and then the project is aligned with budgetary considerations. Our goal is to create an enriched living experience encompassing movement, ventilation, functionality, and natural light. Ultimately, design, functionality, and economics are intertwined aspects of the same dialogue, resulting in spaces that fulfil practical and aesthetic needs holistically.
- As an economics major turned design entrepreneur, how do you integrate economic principles into your design business model to ensure efficiency and profitability?
Time is a valuable resource, and efficient time management is essential for profitability. Establishing a capable team and effective management optimizes productivity. Recognizing lucrative opportunities and delivering beyond expectations fosters long-term client relationships, ensuring economic goals are met while providing exceptional value.
- In what ways do you prioritise user lifestyle and spatial efficiency in your design solutions, and how does this differentiate your approach from others in the industry?
Our approach emphasizes meticulous observation and attention to detail regarding how individuals inhabit spaces. Understanding evolving lifestyles, influenced by technological advancements, informs our designs. Each project is tailored to fulfil its unique purpose by promoting family interaction, optimizing lighting, or maintaining distinct private and public areas. By prioritizing user needs and spatial efficiency, our designs enhance daily living and social experiences, setting us apart in the industry.
- What strategies do you employ to ensure that each project, regardless of size, leaves a meaningful impact on its users and the surrounding community?
Our practice is grounded in the belief that every project should leave a lasting impression. Incorporating community needs and feedback into designs ensures spaces not only serve immediate users but also contribute positively to the surrounding environment. Collaboration with stakeholders ensures projects address relevant issues, fostering a sense of belonging within the community.
- How has your passion for photography and travel influenced your design sensibilities, and can you provide examples of how this inspiration manifests in your work?
My passion for photography and travel has significantly shaped my design sensibilities. Photography has been instrumental in honing my understanding of design principles, especially composition and perspective. Travelling to various destinations has exposed me to diverse cultures and architectural styles, broadening my creative outlook. For example, my visits to Milan, Tokyo, and Iceland have deepened my appreciation for innovative design solutions and the beauty of natural landscapes. These experiences are reflected in my work, where meticulous attention to detail and a global perspective merge to craft unique and immersive environments.
- How do you stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies while maintaining a balance of design aesthetics with economic considerations?
Staying adaptable and discerning is essential in our industry. While I monitor emerging trends and technologies, I exercise caution. Factors like after-sales support and supply chain reliability are always taken into account. This balanced approach ensures that our designs maintain an equilibrium between innovation and practicality, by remaining cutting-edge while also being economically feasible.
